Someone was over thinking this partition setup. So now I'm going to have to partition this laptop to put most of the space on the C drive and reinstall everything.
When the system arrived I had only 13 Gigs available on the C drive. I don't know who in Lenovo picked a 28Gig Partition for the C drive and 105Gig for the D:drive but this makes no sense.
So Now I'm under 5 gigs and I've only owned the laptop a few days. After updates to Norton and Windows Security updates I only have 7 Gigs.
I use some programs (programming tools) that will only install on the c drive. What an inconvience for a new system.
Just leave it all on the C drive and call it a day
Still learning about its various functions but so far so good. The only problem is that the face recognition system works if you are in an area well lighted. Great for this price. This is my first IBM system.
Pros- Nice large screen- Runs Windows Vista smoothly and without problems - Nice mate black design- Well built and Sturdy- small things such as heat sensitive media buttons, buttons designated for voluem and one-touch recovery button make it so much better than the competition- Veriface security keeps your information safe and secure and it also allows for easy acess to your computer with your ace.- nice amount of hard drive space- extraordianry sound from the speaker and sub woofer- Plays movies and games without any problems- Uses ram and processor wisely and efficiently so that you get the most speed for your money- affordable priceCons- screen can cause glare when at the low setting- Your friends will envy you.
I bought it to replace my three year old MAC and I have never looked back. I even tested out Lenovo's tech support by faking a drive crash and they were excellent. The rep got a huge laugh when I told him I was just testing them out for that just in case scenario. All they asked for was for my address so that FedEx could pickup the laptop (at no cost). Oh, all the ports (USB, FireWire, SVideo, etc. The keyboard layout is excellent and very efficient.
The integrated webcam is perfect; Veriface even takes pictures of anyone trying to access your laptop while you're away. Hard drive capacity is typical for a laptop but I have added two external drives using the perfectly placed USB ports. This is by far the best laptop I have ever owned. Good thinking Lenovo. Also, the sound that comes out of this laptop is phenomenal. When I am at work, I can barely get 2.5 hours out of my Dell Latitude D630 laptop. They didn't put me through the ringer like other tech support lines. The built in subwolfer and two speakers are more than I expected from a box this small and this light.
are all in the right place. For starters, it connects to my home's wireless network without any issues. Also, a million thanks to Lenovo for pre-installing all the software needed to restore right on the hard drive. etc). But what's most impressive to me, and I am picky, is that the battery allows this powerhouse to run for 3 hours non stop. Sure, it takes up drive space but I'd rather do with 30 gigs less than have to dig through the house looking for a bunch of CDRoms in case I ever needed to restore. Lastly, it runs quiet and it runs cool.
Here is the short version of my review - "DONT BUY. It kept on asking me for the old password. From this time onwards I was also unable to use my HD password or other passwords. I then forgot it and that was the end of the Y510.the second time I logged in it asked me for the password and since I could not remember it I entered the BIOS.
Right out of the box the machine runs a program called Veriface which is supposed to be a face recognition application - this works well only if you are in a well lighted place otherwise it keeps complaining. Also, first time out of the box the machine asks you for your name and then makes up a username for you and then asks you to enter a password. I then tried to log in again and surprise. IF YOU FORGET THE PASSWORD THEN YOU NEED TO THROW AWAY THE LAPTOP OR PAY $500 TO LENOVO TO REPLACE THE MOTHERBOARD AND HARDDRIVE.I recently bought a Y510 Ideapad from Lenovo.
In most computers you can set the password here and I was able to set the User/Supervosor/HD password here. Most people hit the return key here, i.e. no password - I mistakenly entered a password.
it would not let me log in. I am certain I remember my Supervisor/HD passwords since I set it to what I use at work but mysteriously these would not work.I have returned the laptop to Support who have told me that since none of the passwords work they will have to change the motherboard and HD, now here is the kicker, the cost for this is $500.So, my sincere advice to you is, dont buy this laptop and also, dont buy Lenovo because if you do an internet search you will find others in the same predicament as myself.
